Serey Andree

A native of Atlanta, I received my BFA in Ceramics from Georgia State University. At the times in my life that it was not feasible to work in clay, I studied printmaking, book-arts, papermaking and origami.

I am a sculptor, teacher and former business owner.

Since moving to Fernandina Beach, I have been able to concentrate on my passion for clay. My version of continuing education is taking workshops that I feel will advance my work in interesting ways.

At a workshop I attended at Penland School of Crafts with Paul Dresang and Matt Wilt that focused on trompe-’l’oeil (fooling the eye) and mold making. I still incorporate these techniques into my work. A workshop in North Carolina at the Double Island Studio with Katy Maloney on making hollow animal sculpture has inspired my current work. I find the animal world very intriguing.

The subject material for my work comes from observing the world around me. Stories, fables, books and a love of the outdoors have been integral parts of my life from childhood until the present day.
