Portrait Drawing Group

The Island Art Association, Portrait Drawing Group was created and has been operated by Paul Massing since 1993.  It is open to anyone who prefers making art inspired from a live model.  No instruction is offered so that the participants can work at their personal level of experience.  The models are individuals selected from the Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island community.  A varied selection of models are chosen from high school age students to elderly individuals. They dress in the clothes or costumes of their choice.

The workshop season runs from September to June.  It usually takes place on Tuesday nights from 7 to 9pm (Various Poses) (Fee - $5.00) and has one session on the third Saturday of the month at 9:30 am to 12:00 (Long Pose) (Fee - $5.00).

“The Off the Wall Show”

On a Saturday evening in June, an exhibit of the artist’s work for the season is held from five to eight PM.  The art work is displayed in “studio style”.  Some drawings and paintings are framed, but most are unframed, taped to the walls or pinned to display screens.  The one evening exhibit is entitled “The Off the Wall Show”.  The public who attend meet and greet the artists and the models.  The artwork is inexpensively priced.  Attendance has always been “wall to wall” for the eighteen years of existence.

The pictures are of the working artists and the models which characterize the spirit of the workshop.
