When I first analyzed my work I ask myself, "Just what am I"? I'm not exclusively a photographer even though I use digital imagery, sometimes created with a camera, other times with a computer. I am not strictly a painter since my imagery is not stand alone but used in conjunction with the digital image. So the best discipline I can come up with is that I am a "Multi-Media Artist". My work is influenced by such famous modern expressionistic artists as Klee, de kooning, MirĂ³, Pollock, Kandinsky, Dubuffet and (of course) Richter. I find that each of these artists have certain unique characteristics which I find very interesting. I have; therefore, incorporate some of their artistic components into my work depending on the content of the digital image with which I started. These digital acrylics create a very fascinating and unique visual contrast between the realism of the digital image with its fine detail, infinite colors and/or realistic subject matter and the spontaneity of acrylic abstract expressionism characterized by it's intense colors, random design and surface texture (unfortunately the texture is not visible on these images). If you look closely you can see the acrylic painting superposed on top on the digital image. It's very obvious on some like Sea Oats, Lighthouse and one of the Palace Saloon, a bit more difficult on the Abstracts. All of these pieces are individually hand painted and are therefore one-of-a-kind. The background digital image may be used for other work in the future but, of course, the acrylic painted component, because of it's nature, can never be duplicated. Phone: 904.261.7565 |
