BILL KINNEY
Bill Kinney has returned to his
photography roots. In 2008 Bill decided to revisit and refresh his photography
education. Born in Norwich, CT, Bill earned a B.S.degree in Photography Science and
Engineering in 1964 from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.
After graduation Bill worked for
Houston Fearless Corporation researching aerospace photographic processing
systems and at Technicolor Corporation working in the color TV and movie
industry. In 1966 Bill joined Itek and worked in the development of satellite
camera systems used extensively during the Cold War. He started Microtek
Corporation and Grayscale Labs, both involved in microfilming medical and
industrial x-rays.
Inspired to build his own boat, Bill
built “Sanctuary”, a 43’ sailboat. From his home in Georgia, the sailboat was
hauled down I-75 to Savannah for launching. Ted Turner’s Super Station aired
the launching of “Sanctuary” for the “Winners” series and Bill left the
corporate world for ten years of sailing the world.
In 1991 Bill docked on Amelia Island,
sold his sailboat and began using his artistic abilities in the retail world.
Now, having refreshed his photography education, developed film in his darkroom
at home, and worked with digital photos, Bill is producing photo paintings using
the imagination of his mind, the view thru his eyes, and the wonder of the
camera lens.
In his first year, while developing
his photographic skills, he was
accepted in shows at the Amelia Island Art Assn, First Community Bank Quarterly
Art Show, and Florida Community College of Jacksonville and won second prize in
an Amelia Island Museum of History Exhibit.
