NOUVEAU ART IN THE SOUTH
HALL - JUNE - JULY 2009
Celebrating Light is the
theme of the current Nouveau Art Show. Nofa Dixon, Working Artist
and Art Professor at University of North Florida, was the juror. The
opening reception will be held from 5 - 8 p.m., on the Second Saturday Artrageous Artwalk.
June 13th, at the Co-op Gallery, 18 N. Second St. Make
this beautiful exhibit and reception part of your tour. The
show will be on exhibit through July.
Juror's Statement:
Although I always enjoy art work for a themed exhibition such as
this, Celebrating Summer, I tend to focus my selection on the
quality of the work. I look for the artists' intent, competent
use of media, good design elements (composition), and an overall
quality of a finished product. Creating artwork requires a
certain amount of adventure, self-confidence tempered with a certain
amount of sophistication. The latter element is the most
important because it determines the success or failure of the art
work. It is always pleasing to find all of these elements
present in the works submitted. On the whole, I felt that the
exhibition selected represents some stretch for the participants;
however, I would like to have seen more of an effort to experiment
with concept and media. I congratulate all those who entered
work into this competition. Most of all I would like to
congratulate those whose work is included..............Finally I
would like to invite the Art Association for inviting me to select
the art work and commend the organization for providing this
